Mids 1923 (Aged 19)
I returned to Winchester on May 2 and was again up to Mr Blore in 6th Book B.
In English 15/22, Latin 10/22, Greek 12/15.
He reports that I maintained interest to the end, finishing up with a good exam in Virgil, weak in History and Divinity 15/22 in exams.
Mathematics Mr Brown reports good work.
French 11/17 Rockley-Wilson reports ? and distinct progress.
Nat Science 10/29 Mendel, fair work, but rather untidy.
The HM says that he is sorry to lose me and is pleased with my work to the end.
Robertson writes most gratefully of what I have done for the House and speaks of a high standard of personal principles and public duty. I feel that I owe a great deal to him and Mrs Robertson.
The cricket was the main interest, I played for the second time at Lords versus Eton, the match being drawn in favour of Eton. I made 13 and 5. We were a fair side only being beaten in the last match by Green jackets.
I stayed at Eton with the Headmaster and there was a great gathering of the family. We beat Harrow at Winchester, at Marlborough a draw in their favour, I got 49.
We did not do very well in house matches, my highest score was 102 against Chalkers.
I came home for leave out with Alexander.
We went to camp at Mytchett near Aldershot, and I enjoyed it

very much, Jock attended as Bradfield “Silver Bugler”.
Home to find all, except Bertram in India, at Daneshill. We mainly played lawn tennis, the family winning 1 match at ????? and drawing with Mr Ferrar, not much cricket. I went with Veronica for a week with the Hursts also 10 days to Uncle Eustace at Llansantffraed.
We beat the ????? on Sep 9 with 26 ½ brace of partridge, and I shot with Charles Chute and Spencer Portal.
Nanny celebrated her 25th year of service with a party attended by over 120 of all ranks. Michael took Scouts and Veronica Guides to camp which rather cut up the holidays.
