David left Winchester aged 19 – after what seems like quite a lot of schooling…. He went on to Oxford to study classics. Sadly, there is no diary of his time there. By his own accounts he played a lot of cricket, hockey, golf and bridge and enjoyed himself.
He went on to theological college, was ordained and served as a curate attached to various parishes. With the outbreak of World War II he enlisted as an army chaplain, based initially in the home counties, but later posted to North Africa. At the end of the war his regiment returned home, walking north through much of Italy, David conversed with the locals in his schoolboy Latin – I suspect to their mutual joy.
He served as Vicar of:
Holy Trinity Fareham, Hants (1945 – 1958)
St Peter’s Tilton-on-the Hill, Leicestershire (1959 – 1965)
St Mary’s Vernham Dean, Hants (1966 – 1972)
Much loved husband to Jean Elizabeth Foote and father to:

Who continue to love his diary.
