Cloister Time 1922 (Aged 18)
I returned to Winchester on May 3rd and was again up to Blore in sixth Book B (B). Classics and English I was 16/22 in Classical Order 7/20 Latin exam, 20/22 English exam. He reports that I have been developing well throughout the term and tho’ a slow worker, with an uncertain memory, have pushed well to the front in some subjects and deserve every credit for my thoughtfulness and interest in my work. Mathematics 4/10, Campbell reports that I worked very well for the greater part of the term, but fell off at the end. French 17/19. Munroe says that I obviously know very little French, but have done some very fair work. Nat Science, 18/34. Physics up to Humby, who reports ‘fair’.
The Headmaster reports that I have stuck to my work and will find things much easier next term, that I did some creditable work in exams.
Robertson is satisfied with my report and looks forward with confidence to the future.
I got into Lords 9th and the match was left unfinished, we headed them by 2 runs on first innings, I made 0 and 16, and caught 2 catches. Our side was disorganised by Guise having a very bad hand and I had to bat first in each innings to my dismay.
We were beaten in Hopper pot. I played a good deal of golf at Hockley. We drew with Charterhouse at C, and were thoroughly beaten by Harrow at H. I went up to Lords for 2nd day of Varsity match. It was very fine with fast wickets for the first part of the term,
