1920 Cloister Time

Cloister Time 1920 (Aged 16)

I returned to Winchester on Tuesday Ap 27th and was again up to Mr Blakeney in Senior Part 3 being 15/21 for the term, 14/21 in final order.
Latin, 12/21, Greek 5/21, Hist 11/21, Div 18/21. He reports that I seem to work well, but that the results are rather disappointing, that I certainly should have had higher places in Divinity and History. I did not like his system of marking, by which we marked ourselves, in all these subjects except Greek.
French 12/16 he reports that I should tackle this subject more earnestly.
Math up to Irving in Div I, no places given but he reports very good work all the term.
Science up to Mr Brown, 2/20, we did heat and he reports very creditable work.
Rendall says that I am doing my duty – it was a disappointment that I did not get my remove.
Bather on handing over the House to Robertson says that I am one of those whom he is very sorry to leave, but that it is the men of my type in the House that make him confident in handing over.

In cricket I got my flannels 7th out of roll of 15. The stamp of cricket was high and we beat Eton by 131, all the family being present except Rosemary and Faith owing to measles. I counted over 40 relatives.
We were 6th in Toye Pot, I got 119 v Kenny’s.
We got into the final for Hopper Pot, but were beaten by Freddy’s in an innings. I got more runs for the House than in Toye Pot, with an average of 23.1.
We had a leaving supper for Bather and gave him a picture chosen by Mr Welford. I went over several times to Arthur and Anna at Ovington, but did not catch a trout. Home for leave out with Ken and Edward and Hollins. We were all at home at the beginning of the holidays after 8 days camp in the rain in a leaky tent at Tidworth Pennings, as last year.
We played a family match at Rickling, spoiled by rain and a lawn tennis tournament at Harlow.
