1919 Short Half

Short Half 1919 (Aged 15)

Mathematics up to Mr Bloomfield, 16/17, he says I could have done better though not doing badly.
French 8/17, Blakeney reports improvement since ½ term.
The Headmaster reports me very serious and sincere and that he is well content with my work.
I got my remove into Senior pent and Bather reports that I have done a good term’s work.
I was confirmed by the Bishop at Winchester. Mother, Father, Veronica, Michael, Aunt May coming down and Uncle Eustace, who could not come, sent me £10.
I played in Middle B, front row. Houses beat College but were beaten by Commoners in Sixes. In 15s we tied with Commoners, but were beaten by College, we had 6 playing and 2 on dress. Raikes in sixes and 3 on dress.
I played some fives. We had 1 field day. It was

quite a good half. I went home twice for leave out, taking Roddy the first time and Hollins the second.
I was unlucky in spraining my ankle just before the end of the half, so went home early in the car and had to spend nearly a fortnight on the sofa before it got right but was able to play in the family football towards the end of the holidays. There were a great many parties of all kinds and we were all at home for Xmas, Michael coming down regularly for weekends.
