Cloister Time 1919 (Aged 15)
I returned to Winchester on Wed May 7th and was up to Mr Quirk in Middle Part 2. In Division subjects, Latin, Divinity, History and English I was 2nd but in all subjects combined was 1st out of 25. Mr Quirk says that I have done capital work and thoroughly deserve my remove, showing care and judgement in Classics and should become a scholar, that my work is sound and I enjoy doing it, that in English I must read and think for myself.
Greek 2/21 up to Mr Jackson, 1st in exam, he says that I have considerable grasp of the subject and should do well.
French up to Rockley Wilson, no place given, he reports that I have done a good term’s work.
Mathematics 9/17 Mr Durrell says that I have worked very well and made satisfactory progress.
Science (Physical Geography) up to Mr Quirk who reports my work as moderate, that I need practice, being apt to lose the thread.
The Headmaster’s comment is “Good”.
Bather says I have done really well this term and he hopes to see me get up the School quickly. He has some fear of swelled head among the young cricketers but sums it up that I am a good boy.
I played in Toyes Cup with an age limit of 16 on June 1,
