Common Time 1918 (Aged 13)
I returned to Winchester late because of quarantine and was up to Mr Robinson in Middle Part 3. After 4 weeks I got mumps, which I enjoyed thoroughly, so had a very short half.
For the time I was in school, Mr Robinson says that I showed distinct promise 17/26 but did not always grapple with the difficulties.
In Greek that I improved.
In Maths up to Mr Thompson that I did well 5/21. In French 13/19 very fair and Mr Rendall consoled with me over my misfortunes.
I played football, Association and some fives.
I came down to Hastings for the holidays, Father and Mother and the 3 eldest going to Devonshire.
I learned to swim and we played some lawn tennis at Summerfields (Mr E.D. Compton).
