1916 Summer Term (Aged 12)
I returned to Ludgrove on May 4th with Aunt Jessie meeting Nigel at Kings X and was up to Mr Stanborough again in Div II. I was left 1st but was beaten by Pilkington all through the term ending up 2nd. My report is a good one for perseverance and industry and that I worked excellently having lost a great deal through absence all the year.
In Maths up to Mr Oakley in Div II, I started 8th and ended up 5th which was very satisfactory and he reports that I have a clear head for figures tho, still rather untidy and inaccurate.
In French I was 1st in Div II up to Mr Blore and he reports that I worked well and made steady progress.
In History, he says the same and I was top of Div III. Mr Blore gave me a book for being top of his 2 divisions.
In Geography I was 10th out of 20 in Div I up to Mr Brown, who says I worked steadily and have done fairly well.
Mr Smith reports that I am most reliable and that he is pleased with me in every way, having worked well with satisfactory results.
I was in the Cottage with Wiggin, Burns mi, Martin mi and Gosling.

first 2 matches, we picked up and did decently.
I played in all the matches, but did not always get an innings. My best score was 26 not out and had an average of 12.8 fielding point.
I was in Worthington’s X and we won.
Mother came over from S Lodge where Jocelyn was spending his first term and I went over to score for the 2nd XI and found him very happy.
Home to Daneshill, where the whole family was collected when Bertram got back from camp at Tidworth. Father was in camp at Romsey. Nigel and I spent the inside of a week there, sharing a tent in the Officer’s lines.
