1914 Easter Term [Aged 9]
I returned to Ludgrove on Jan 22nd with Bertram and Nigel, Mother seeing us from King’s X.
In Classics I had a remove into the 5th Div up to Mr Bird and in final order was 3rd out of 10 gaining 3 places. Mr Bird gave me a thoroughly good report saying that he was pleased with my progress and steady work all through the term. The one thing I have to guard against is a tendency to be careless.
In Maths I was moved up into the 4th Div and ended up 5th out of 9 gaining 3 places. Mr Henley gave me a thoroughly good report saying that I had worked very keenly all through the term the only drawback being that I might be rather neater.
In French I was moved up into the 4th Div and ended up 3rd out of 11 gaining 5 places. Mr Stanborough was well pleased with my work.
In History I was moved up into Div 3 ending up 3rd out of 15 gaining 9 places and Mr Bird was pleased.
In Geography I was moved up into Div III ending up 4th out of 16 gaining 9 places and Mr Henley was better pleased with my work this term, saying that I had taken greater pains with preparation and written work.
Mr Smith says that I have worked steadily and well and that he is quite satisfied with me in every way. My report gave Father very great pleasure.

Father and Mother were abroad in Italy and Sicily and Corsica all the term. Aunt May came down to see us with Aunt Winnie. Crossman came into the room with Bertram and me. We played football and I was in the 2nd game generally playing ½-back or forward. Nigel and I were both in “the Boss” 6 (Oxley) we won the A series and played the final against Gibbs mi. There was no score in the time for play in 6 so we played on the full size ground and Graham scored a goal against us.
Aunt May met us in London and took us down to Rookwood, meeting the three little ones Nanny Rose and Mr Leavey at Didcot coming from Lychpit, where they had been staying with the Aunts.
