1915 Football Half (Aged 11)

I returned to Ludgrove on Oct 8th after convalescence from scarlet fever, during which I lost nearly all my hair but it grew all right during the half.
I was moved up into the 2nd Div up to Mr Stanborough and lost 1 place, which I hope to recover next term. He reports that it is not possible to judge on the work after the long time lost, but that he expects me to do really well next term.
In Maths I was in Div I and Mr Oakley says that when I have learned how to work and be neater I ought to do well. I was Eq. 9th out of 13.
In French I was 3rd in Div II up to Mr Blore, who reports good work and considerable improvement.
In History Mr Brown reports that I have worked well and have made fairly good progress, ending up 5th out of 16.
In Geography Mr Blore reports good work and satisfactory results, 3rd out of 13 in Div II.
Mr Smith reports that he is satisfied with me in every way.
I was in a room with Nigel and Thynne and Burberry. The Half was again spoiled by 3 new cases of scarlet fever, but we were able to play some matches at the end – the school getting badly beaten. I played twice for the 2nd XI keeping

goal and we won the last match when Nigel got his colours.
Mr Henley left to take a commission.
The only relation I saw was Aunt Jessie whom we met on a walk with

South LodgeAnother prep school in Enfield – only 2 or 3 miles away from Ludgrove. There is a family connection. Jessie Mary Robertson had a brother Richard (married to Josepha Mary Vincent) they had a son Walter Knyvett Robertson born 1868. He was a founding schoolmaster at South Lodge.
. We came home to Daneshill for Xmas. Father getting 4 days leave from Bournemouth.
Bertram got chicken pox soon after arriving home and the whole of the family had it – which quite spoiled the holidays and made us late in going back.
