“O. E. writes: –

The death at Lychpit on July 1 of Walter Robertson Hoare, the last survivor of three remarkable brothers, has ended a record which, in Eton annals, will probably not be surpassed. The three brothers, W. R. H., A. R. H., and V. R. H., were the sons of Walter Marsham Hoare, who was in the Eton VIII, cricket XI, field XI, and won School Fives; his three sons were all in the cricket XI, field XI, and won School Fives. In the nineties the three brothers were the back-bone of Eton Rambler Cricket sides, and were known, from their professions, as Bung, Bishop, and Bank to a host of friends. Better sportsmen will never be known, nor men more utterly to be described as sans peur et sans reproche. The world is the poorer for their loss, but how good it would be to see the father and his three sons, all in their prime, playing fives again!”
